The UT Center for Health Communication provides health communication expertise to Collaborating Organizations of Be Well Communities™ implementing multi-component sun safety interventions.

The first sun safety campaign pursued through Be Well Communities was implemented with Lee College, with support from the Executive Director of Student Success and Wellbeing, Rosemary Coffman, Ph.D.

First generation sun safety campaign at Lee College.

Since then, the CHC has supported sun safety assets for Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District, Aldine Independent School District, Houston Parks and Recreation, and Houston Health Department. Assets were produced in English and Spanish depending on the requests of each organization. Specifically, sun safety efforts through Be Well™ Baytown were featured in the The Community Guide from the Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF).

The sample materials uploaded for the series of assets produced in Fiscal Year 2023 were produced for Goose Creek CISD, but all organizations were offered similar assets in their own branding.

In fiscal year 2024, Goose Creek CISD and Aldine ISD were offered updated assets designed for print and tailored for elementary, middle school and high school groups. And again, Goose Creek materials are used as the sample work provided here.

Finally, Lee College was offered updated materials in fiscal year 2024.

Sun safety campaigns were created through a collaboration of the Be Well Communities team™, UT Center for Health Communication and many collaborating organizations. The communication manager of these campaigns were Martha Vieco-Garcia. Initial strategy was drafted with Hayley Fick before I took over as the new project manager, strategist and copywriter for the project.
